Lady Wildcat Volleyball earns Dig Pink night victory over Farragut

The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball team travelled to Farragut for Dink Pink night on Tuesday. Dig Pink is a fundraising event for the Side-Out Foundation which unifies volleyball teams and drives change in the way that breast cancer is treated. Both teams sported pink jerseys while the coaches and most fans also wore pink. The Lady Wildcats ultimately prevailed in the two-set match, sweeping the Lady Admirals (28-26, 25-14). “This was a great way to end our non-district regular season – beating a team we haven’t beaten in a decade,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “We’ve had our troubles with [Farragut] both physically and mentally in the past, but this year we found a groove late in the first set and didn’t look back.” The Lady ‘Cats were forced to battle in the first set in order to close it out, however the Lady Admirals never took a lead in the second. “We’ve got a strong starting six and a strong bench which is exactly what you need to make an October run,” Kolodney continued. “On a night when we hit 1000 Kills for the season, it only seems fitting that Ainsley is named Player of the match.” Ainsley Patrick leads the team with 343 Kills on the Season and picked up 9 tonight. “She had another great night with her 9 Kills on 20 swings to go along with 2 blocks at the net,” Kolodney said of his Junior Outside Hitter. “She also helped her own cause by having a perfect passing night which allowed our setters to do what they wanted with the ball.” Setter Paige Halcrow led the way with 12 Assists; Sydney Ward had 12 Digs; and Brenna Allred chipped in with 3 Blocks. “It was great to get this win which put us at 30 wins for the seasons with hopefully more to go,” Kolodney finished. “It was also a great night for charity as we’re always honored to be a part of our annual Dig Pink match with Farragut.”

Oak Ridge travels to Karns on Wednesday for the final regular-season match. District 4-AAA Tournament is on Thursday 10/9, where the Lady Wildcats have secured the #1 seed and receive an automatic bye to the Semi-Finals. Oak Ridge surpasses 30 wins on the season and improves to 30-4 overall and remains undefeated in District 4-AAA play (11-0).
