Lady 'Cats Hammer the Cougars to open 2020 Season

Updated: Aug 20, 2020

The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team started the season off strong in a 3-Set sweep of Campbell County at Wildcat Arena on Tuesday night. “It was so good to get back out there tonight,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “After a long off-season and what often felt like a longer summer, I’m so happy to get to coach these girls as they play meaningful volleyball again.” Despite many cancellations of scrimmages and camps in the preseason due to concerns over COVID-19, Oak Ridge’s Regular Season started on schedule. “We had a great opening night all around,” continued Kolodney. “Every player contributed in a measurable way. As a team we want to push the point and not react – Scoring two-thirds of our points on Aces or Kills was a great way to do that.” The Lady ‘Cat serving delivered 17 Aces and their balanced attack pounded 34 Kills against the Lady Cougars. “We had great serving from Ainsley (Patrick) and Piper (Suddeth) – great hitting from all our front row players including Alex (Shanafield) who came off the bench and delivered 5 Kills from 5 Attacks,” said Coach Kolodney. “But to me the most important stat of the night is zero dig errors. If we can pass the ball like that, we can keep the point going which directly leads to wins.” The Lady Wildcats were lead by Senior Lynley Baldwin with 3 Kills/set, Setter Piper Suddeth with 15 Assists and 5 Digs, and Outside Hitter Ainsley Patrick delivering 13 points for her team (8 Aces, 5 Kills). Patrick’s 8 Aces moved her past 300 Aces for her High School career.

Oak Ridge volleyball starts with 1-0 record in District Play and travels to Clinton on Thursday to face 2019 Class AA State Runner-up Anderson County.
